The Abbey

An Intelligent Alternative

Options, choices, alternatives: until recently, there weren’t many for senior adults needing affordable, nominal assistance in their daily living.

Home care, either by a family member or by a hired assistant was one. An alternative to this daunting task was placement in a skilled nursing facility. Recently, however, a comforting third alternative has become available: Personal Care at The Abbey.

More than an assembly of apartments, staff and services, Personal Care at The Abbey is a concept of living designed to permit maximum independence for those who need a little assistance in everyday living. At The Abbey, this assistance is provided by a staff dedicated to providing support and encouragement in a caring Christian environment.

Personal care at The Abbey is a comprehensive program of service:

An On-Campus Part of Bishop’s Glen

The Abbey is located within Bishop’s Glen Retirement Village, a comprehensive retirement community set on the grounds of a lush former dairy estate in Holly Hill, Florida. Practically everything necessary to enjoy a comfortable, secure retirement can be found within or near the 25-acre Village campus.

The brilliant white stucco walls and burnt red tiled roofs of the Village are home to large, comfortable apartments, a community dining room, community recreational facilities, and The Abbey -- our 60-bed Health Center. Also on-campus are a beauty salon and barber shop, library and reading room, inter-faith chapel, and walking paths around the two lakes at Bishop’s Glen.

The Attractive Apartments

The spacious apartments at The Abbey are available with one or two bedrooms and one or two baths. With the exception of one furnished unit, apartments at The Abbey are unfurnished, allowing residents to bring favorite furnishings and belongings. Bed linens and towels are provided by Bishop’s Glen, and are changed weekly.

These beautiful apartment homes all feature:

For your security and peace of mind, Bishop’s Glen is guard-patrolled, and each apartment is independently secured. Other security features common to each apartment include:

For visitors, guest apartments are available by reservation on a first-come, first-served basis.

Admission Requirements

To live at the Abbey, residents must be ambulatory and mentally stable. They must, with limited assistance, be able to bathe and dress themselves. Persons with acute mental or physical disorders, or those requiring the daily attention of a licensed nurse, will not be admitted. The Abbey will take into account the recommendations and opinions of the resident’s personal physician when evaluating suitability for admission.

Both Bishop’s Glen and The Abbey are owned by Retirement Housing Foundation. The Foundation, affiliated with the Council for Health and Human Services of the United Church of Christ, has been a national leader in senior adult housing and healthcare for over 25 years.
