Wake up calls. Windows of opportunity. Strategic alliances. Calls to action. Looking at The Big Picture with Commitments to The Future, Outside the Box (but of course!).
Elections and reform movements seem to generate their own little cyclones of analogies, catch phrases and, dare we say, tired and annoying clichés. Everybody knows it, expects it, grouses about it...then partakes in the abuse. (Why, even The Excellerator may have pounded the “buzz” out of a few buzzwords this year!)
Still, the beauty of an oft-repeated, simple clause is its capacity to evoke an instant message, to reduce an entire crusade to one memorable snapshot. Our vote for The Best 10 Words Capturing The Present and Future of The California and National Health Care Reform Picture is the cover quote from Dr. Arthur “Artie” Southam: “Health Care Reform is not a sprint. It’s a marathon.”
If Dr. Southam is right -- and we suspect he is -- we had all better get in shape and stay in shape. After all. The first guy to ever run a marathon dropped dead at the finish.
